What does a Mediator Do?
- The mediators act as a neutral facilitator that aids in identifying the real issues in a dispute by helping participants hear and understand each other. The mediator helps the participants find ways to fix the issues and oversees the writing of an agreement that resolves the dispute. The mediators have participated in a 25 hour training program in the mediation process.
What Kinds of Situations are Good for Mediation?
- Most cases that include a dispute with another party are appropriate for mediation unless it includes any kind of sexual assault, physical abuse or violence. Common cases referred to mediation include roommate conflicts, faculty/student conflicts and neighbor conflicts.
